This is the traditional Japanese age system (counting the year of birth as age one). Please refer to your birth year for your age. Only the year of the Great Misfortune (大厄) is different for men and women. The years of the Middle Misfortune (中厄) and Minor Misfortune (小厄) are the same for both men and women.
Those who are in their unlucky year should receive a prayer or amulet to ward off misfortune and escape harm.
