Information about the Hatsuuma Festival

It is said that on February 7th, the 4th year of the Wado era (711 AD), the first day of the Horse in February, a deity descended upon Mount Inari in Fushimi, Kyoto. Since then, the first day of the Horse in February has been celebrated as the "Hatsuumasai" (First Horse Festival), and prayers for a bountiful harvest have been offered to Inari Okami since the Heian period.

Today, it is considered to be the most important festival day for the Inari gods, with all kinds of prayers such as good harvest, prosperity of business, prosperity of descendants, and safety of the family.
